As a young adult, Jenna found solace from her pain in a New Orleans glassblowing studio as well as tutoring children in a nearby housing project. The transparency and defiant durability of the children remind her of the glass she is shaping and together they help her find meaning amidst the ambiguity of her sexuality, spirituality and strength. Now grown, Jenna relives the childhood memories that nearly destroyed her after she is contacted by the son she gave up for adoption at birth. Jenna experiences life’s jagged shards melding into dazzling works of art much like the sea glass she collects on the beach.
Rogers-Martin plans to donate a portion of her book’s net proceeds to programs serving at-risk youth.
