People are like stained-glass windows. They sparkle and shine when the sun is out, but when the darkness sets in, their true beauty is revealed only if there is a light from within.
-Elisabeth Kubler-Ross
Don’t tell me the moon Is shining; show me the glint of light on broken glass –Anton Chekhov
Hi Julie, in keeping with the glass theme of quotes:
“The genius of this nation is not in the least to be compared with the Prussians, the Austrians, or French. You say to your soldier, Do this,’ and he doeth it, but I am obliged to say, ‘This is the reason that you ought to do that,’ and then he does it.” – Baron Friedrich Wilhelm Von Steuben
Yup, Steuben, as in Steuben Glass…
Ralph
Thanks for the quote. I agree, a little education (and reason) goes a long way.
If not already, google Baron Von Steuben- interesting fellow. Steuben county in upstate New York was named after him. Home of the famous Steuben Glass company in Corning. My mom used to take us there every now and then as a kid. And, school field trips to see and learn about the process of hand blown glass artwork.
